'Headin' for the Open Road' was my usual state of mind in those days. I looked to the open highway for adventure, freedom and release. My need for the unpredictable and mysterious could always be satiated by just picking up my guitar and backpack and leaving wherever I happened to be.

1971 photo of my brother Rich, bringing supplies in to our campsite in the mountains above Aspen Colorado, a week before my Denver gig opening for the Cannonball Adderley Quintet.
