I happened to be going through a period of loss - call it the deep blue period - when this song took form. I had lost someone close to me in death, and had lost other relationships to the vageries of life. Having felt these losses deeply, I was just wondering when the balance would shift back to the light. What better way to exorcise hard times than to write a blues.

Drummer Tris Imboden's solid groove here is just what the doctor ordered. Check out his intricate yet in the pocket hi-hat playing at the vamp near the tracks end. Tris' main gig for the last 18 years or so has been with Chicago but he has played with acts including Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Earth Wind and Fire, Kalapana and surf music pioneers Honk, to name a few.

Emerson's slide provides much appreciated atmosphere as well as the glue for it all. Had to extend the songs length when I heard the solos by Mike Ruff and Ken.
