about

No matter what age you happen to be, meeting your match always seems like a first-time experience. Sometimes one or the other is not quite ready for the ride. Then you might write a song like this in hopes of swaying his or her opinion, and encouraging them to take that blind faith leap into who knows where.

Having spent the last fifteen years or so writing many songs in altered tunings it was refreshing to write a song in the key of C, and rediscover the joys of the basic C, A minor, F and G chord progression structure again. I started out with those chords way back when, and still find that with a little twist and turn you can always fashion a nice bed for a lyric and melody. The cats in Nashville have been utilizing variations of that theme for ages, as did the early doo-wop and rock pioneers. Stands to reason.

Love the blend of Anjela Rose and my voices on the backing vocals on the chorus and tag. Ken Emerson's stellar slide guitar part sits perfectly in the track, especially his typical coming from the heart and gut solo. Tip of the hat to Brian Wohlgemuth for a great job of recording Kens performance. AT can be heard playing Tele electric rhythm guitar on the left, and the lead tremelo licks in the chorus on the right, with the Sadowsky nylon electric. Some real sweet mandolin playing by Kirk Smart, give the guy a stringed instrument and he's good to go, with tasteful playing coming out of his ears. At the very end of the track the last decending slide riff by Ken is a perfect example of his zany humor.

LEAP OF FAITH

words & music - Allan Thomas

BACK IN FEBRUARY I WAS KING OF THE WORLD
MY FEET HARDLY TOUCHED THE GROUND
YOU’RE A COOL RAIN FALLING ON DESERT SAND
AND WHAT CAN I DO
I FELL FOR A GIRL LIKE YOU

YOU’RE A FLAME I CAN’T RESIST
I FEEL THE HEAT AS I COME CLOSER
NOTHING ON EARTH MORE POWERFUL THAN THIS
AND WHAT CAN I DO
I FELL FOR A GIRL LIKE YOU

AND WHAT CAN I SAY
TO MAKE YOU WANT
TAKE THAT LEAP OF FAITH
LEAP OF FAITH

HEADLONG I RUSH TO THOSE POOLS OF BLUE
NO TELLING WHERE IT WILL LEAD US TO
FELL FOR A GIRL LIKE YOU

I WANT TO BE YOUR SANCTUARY
A SAFE HARBOR IN THE STORM
I WANT TO BE THE ONE YOU COME TO YES
AND WHAT CAN I DO
TO MAKE IT HAPPEN WITH A GIRL LIKE YOU

AND WHAT CAN I SAY
TO MAKE YOU WANT
TAKE THAT LEAP OF FAITH
LEAP OF FAITH
