‘No Win Situation’ was my experience with an oh so very attractive and willful woman whom I dated for a short while. She was all that I ever wanted but everything I shouldn’t have. Drama engulfed her at all times, and for a while I was sort of addicted to it, but soon came to realize that to pursue a relationship with her was in the short and long run not in my best interests. That time I got lucky not getting the girl, and by disappearing before I got sucked into the vortex of her turbulent life. Still it was nice for a long moment to be engulfed in her all-consuming flame.

'The Island' producer Stephen Barncard asked Valerie Carter to sing harmony with me on the chorus' of ‘No Win Situation’, and that was a a stroke of genious as far as I'm concerned, and as it turned out, a major treat for me being a huge Valerie Fan. She's known in the music world as a ‘singers singer’, possessing a voice with a sweet yet haunting soulful sound. I love how it meshes with mine here. As a soloist she worked with Little Feat's Lowell George, and Earth Wind & Fire. Valeire has also sung back-up vocals for Jackson Browne, Don Henley, James Taylor and Jackson Browne to name but a few.

Russell Ferrante is pianist and composer for the long time Grammy winning jazz group The Yellowjackets, who were nominated for a two jazz Grammy's in 2012.

Producer Stephen Barncard filmed a music video of this song back in 1989 and recently edited and released it in 2009.
