I've always loved the rain. The sound, the mood it sets. Especially Kauai rain. Crawl under the covers with a good book - or even better - with someone you love - and what better soundtrack for your movie.

Out in Haena in 1988, when I wrote this one, it rained a lot - a real lot. Hundreds, maybe thousands of toads would come out at night and hug both dirt and asphalt roads. You'd be hard pressed to aviod the things - seemingly gathered there awaiting a ticket to another existence.

A few fans of the tune were disappointed when 'Rapture...' was not included in the Coconut Culture recording of 1997, so to quell a rising rebellion I vowed to to lay it down on this one.

Having a song in your performing repertoire for something like eighteen years, gives it plenty of time to age and develop. Now that I was finally ready to record it I was really lucky in that Mike Ruff and Bryan Kessler - who have been playing this song with me ever since it's inception - were available to record it with me. I asked Bryan to play some of the same cool licks he used on the very first demo we did at his studio in '88. These licks for me had become part of the songs identity since day one and I needed for them to be there.

I'm playing the staccato guitar part on the left which was no doubt inspired by the guitar part on the song 'Every Breath You Take' by the Police. On the right playing my Sadowsky Tele Standard is Bryan, with Ruff iplaying the Wurlitzer piano towards the center. Having Jimmy Johnson play bass on this track, and the rest of the CD for that matter, was the major coup. I couldn't have imagined a better sound or part than this.

The interesting thing is that a few times when Ruff and Kesser and I performed this song at a gig, it would just start raining - out of nowhere, it would come - so much so that we and the people in the audience would wink at each other in knowing disbelief. So I find it not odd that sitting here this moment writing about the song after not a drop of rain for a week, it begins to rain.
