about
I still wonder why people have such a hard time recognizing our universal oneness, our inter-relatedness regardless of race, religion, geography, or belief. Am I loco to dare believe in such a thing? ‘Kindred Spirits’ touches upon this. I like to include at least one song on an album with a message of hope. Even though we live in such seeming bleak times, it can't hurt to speak or sing your dream and envision something better.
I was thinking a lot about Marvin Gaye in his ‘What’s Going On?’ period when I wrote this. When I recorded the vocals it was the two vocal an octave apart Marvin style I employed.
Owe a lot to Barncard here not only for the great mix but for the intro and re-intro section edits, where an actual razor blade and scotch tape were applied.
We were looking for a way to start out the tune and someone had brought a drum machine to the session. Mike Ruff picked up the thing and soon enough had programmed a cool riff for it. Sure enough we used it here in the intro and re-intros. Ruff also organized a dymanic backing vocal group for these sessions including the ever-so-soulful Leslie Smith. I also had some big fun singing harmonies with the crew.
Cliff Hugo is currently the bassist for the legendary Supertramp. He considers himself a lifelong traveler, student and appreciator of the music of the world. He feels soulfully connected and comfortable playing with Brazilian greats, French balladeers, Jamaican Rastafarians as well as exciting new rap talents and venerable rock and jazz greats. Just out of college in 1975, Cliff was asked to record and tour with one of his idols, Ray Charles, playing on the famous "Oh What a Beautiful Morning." He has recorded or performed with such artists as: Solomon Burke, Mike Love, Manhattan Transfer and Melissa Manchester. Cliff has lent his talents to over 1000 commercial jingles and hundreds of film and TV scores. He is one third of the Carl Verheyen Trio, and also plays for Paul Williams.

KINDRED SPIRITS
words & music - Allan Thomas
music - Bryan Kessler
Tall Man Running Down The Road
Got A Different Colored Skin
And If You Look Beyond The Images
We're All The Same Within
Don't Matter Your Religion
Your County Or Belief
Gotta Learn To Share The World We Live In
Stop Causing So Much Grief
Kindred Spirits That's What We Are
Kindred Spirits
Man's Obsessed With Power
He Keeps Grasping For More
And The Killing Never Ceases
War After Bloody War
People Say Be just Patient
But It's Been Too Many Years
What's It Gonna Take For Us To Realize
Nothing But Ourselves To Fear
Kindred Spirits That's What We Are
Kindred Spirits
Kindred Spirits
That's What We Are Kindred Spirits
Kindred Spirits That's What We Are
Kindred Spirits
Look At It In Your Own Perspective
As You Perceive So It Becomes
Why Not Envision Something Truly Ironic
A Brotherhood Of Everyone
Inhabitants Of The Same Star
Maybe This Is Pure Folly
The Dream Of A Wistful Mind
A Prayer For The Creatures Of The Earth And Ocean
And The Creature Called Mankind
Kindred Spirits That's What We Are
Kindred Spirits
